Birdman foi considerado o melhor filme na 87ª edição dos prémios da Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas. A obra de Alejandro G. Iñárritu recebeu ainda a estatueta nas categorias de realização, argumento adaptado e cinematografia.
Quem também conquistou 4 estatuetas foi Grand Budapest Hotel: Melhor Guarda Roupa, Caracterização, Banda Sonora e Cenografia. Com três triunfos surge Whiplash: Melhor Ator Secundário, Melhor Edição e Melhor Mistura de Som.
Com estes triunfos, o grande derrotado da noite foi Boyhood, que levou para casa apenas uma estatueta, a de melhor atriz secundária para Patricia Arquette.
Na verdade, foi uma cerimónia sem grandes surpresas. Julianne Moore foi consagrada com a Melhor Atriz, enquanto Eddie Redmayne conquistou o Oscar de Melhor Ator. Uma nota ainda para os triunfos de The Imitation Game (Melhor Argumento Adaptado), Citizenfour (Melhor Documentário), Big Hero 6 (Melhor Filme de Animação) e Ida (Melhor Filme Estrangeiro).
